WHAT IS TRUE HDR?
True High Dynamic Range Photography is the process of merging multiple images at different exposures to create one visually attractive super image!
Think of the individual photos as the ingredients of a full recipe.
THE TECHNICAL STUFF
A special merging program is needed to utilize the most optimal lights, darks, and colors, (luminances and hues) of the first set of images. The program also overcomes problems like moving objects like trees swaying, moving clouds, or a bird flying by that can create ghosting, look blurry, or repeated objects by unifying them.
This process is not to be confused with simply putting a filter on a single image and distorting or over-saturating the colors.
Multiple images vary from overexposed to underexposed and are then combined together to create the new composite image. Further editing may be desired, in which case I may continue the new image editing by exporting into Photoshop.
Creating True HDR imagery for professional clients is a learned skill utilizing education and understanding of equipment, light, digital process, and experience. The resulting images have that impressive wow-factor that will add value to the client’s digital assets.
The mark of a great photographer includes more than just great technique and a good eye. A great photographer may also be tasteful in their choices.
In the resulting images in this article are commissioned work for The Gardens Memorial in Boca Raton. They are a wonderfully operated, family-owned company with whom I had the pleasure to work with. Their company headshots may also be found on my Corporate Headshots page.
